People's dream of drinking authentic American Whiskey in Changsha will come true as LS Moonshine —an American company has set up a joint venture of whiskey distillery in mainland China. By the end of this month, Hunan
Moonshine Liquor Co. Ltd will be put into operation in Huarong with the brewing methods of American whiskey introduced in China for the first time.

"As far as I know, this is the first time that American whiskey is produced in mainland China." a Chinese-American, head of the LS MOONSHINE Company in the United States Tong Li said. He also pointed out that the water of high quality in Huarong reservoir attracted LS MOONSHINE Company to set up a distillery in Huarong of Hunan province other than in the metropolis such as Beijing and Shanghai. Besides, he said that the climate in Huarong, similar to that of Appalachians, was suitable for brewing liquor.
The Sino-American joint venture project will be put into operation by the end of October, 2008. The total investment of Phase I project will be about 5 million Yuan and the annual output is estimated to be 150,000 bottles. The output of Phase II project will be 1,500,000 bottles with a total investment of 20 million Yuan.

"We hope that cultural exchange between China and the United States can be promoted through the spreading of American moonshine whiskey. At present, novels, movies and television programs about American moonshine whiskey are about to be published in China" Tong Li said, "As a symbol of folk culture in the United States, the moonshine whiskey will not only intensify competition in the market, but also result in Chinese people's better understanding of white liquor culture in the United States."

 
    本报10月9日讯 喜欢到酒吧喝美国威士忌的长沙人,或许这个冬天就可以将国产美式威士忌从超市带回家。据记者日前从湖南华容有关方面获得的消息,以摩闪酒——美国著名民间威士忌为主要产品的湖南摩闪酒业有限公司,将于本月底在该县正式投产。值得一提的是,这也是国内首家采用美国威士忌民间酿造法为生产技术的洋酒制造商。
  
  酿造工艺完全美国民间化
  
  据了解,摩闪威士忌是由早期爱尔兰和苏格兰人带到美国山区,根据美国的农作物,发展成了玉米威士忌酒,其主要原料是玉米,味道接近白酒,口感比白酒绵软、流畅,并略带一丝甜意。值得一提的是,摩闪威士忌也是数百年来美国民间家酿私酒,在美国商店里是买不到的,因此也孕育了很多美国摩闪酒的传奇故事。
  
  “国内的威士忌极少在餐桌上作筵席酒,大都在酒吧里出售,饮酒方式也大部分是勾兑到可乐,雪碧或红绿茶里。”美国LSMOONSHINE公司总裁李同青表示,中国的烈性酒都是白酒,没有颜色。而威士忌是烈性酒却带颜色,就显得不伦不类,难以迎合中国人的口味和心理。
  
  “摩闪酒不同于进口的芝华士、杰克·丹尼、金宾等琥珀色威士忌,其晶亮如白酒,味道也接近白酒,却又比白酒绵软、流畅,并略带一丝甜意,比较适合中国老百姓的口味。”湖南摩闪酒业有限公司特聘的加拿大籍酿酒师易安斯迈理(IANSMILEY)表示,这次他们在华容采用的酿酒工艺也将是美国民间威士忌的酿造工艺,因此在口感各方面也将和美国民间摩闪酒保持一致。
  
  选址华容“这里的水吸引了我”
  
  “摩闪酒没有将厂址选在北京、上海等大城市,而是偏偏钟情于湖南华容,这种选择一方面是因为湖南拥有超过6000万的人口,而湖南人又偏爱白酒,拥有着一个容量巨大的白酒市场。”李同青说,将威士忌酒厂选在华容看中的恰好是湖南乃至中国南部潜在的烈性白酒市场。
  
  除了看中了湖南白酒市场所潜在的巨大容量之外,李同青表示,最关键的是因为华容县同美国阿拉帕契山脉的纬度和气候极为相似,华容水库的水质优秀,非常适宜酿造纯正的美国白酒。“这里的水深深吸引了我。”
  
  据李同青介绍,该公司华容项目一期生产线已经全部建成,设计年产量为15万瓶,本月底将正式投产,而成品酒预计也将在春节前进入国内各大中城市市场。
  
  取了一个中国名字威士吉
  
  “威士忌翻译中的‘忌’字不好,中国老百姓怕忌讳,忌字给人不吉利的感觉。把威士吉(WHISKEY)的翻译改了一个字,‘吉’字给人以喜祥的感觉,是为了从文化上贴近中国老百姓的口味。”李同青告诉记者。
  
  “我们希望通过摩闪酒来促进中美之间的文化交流。而事实上,目前,有关美国摩闪酒的小说、电影和电视节目正准备在国内出版。”李同青表示,作为美国民间文化的典型代表,摩闪威士吉酒不仅将带来酒饮料市场的激烈竞争,更将诠释美国白酒文化的理念,带来更多文化的交融。
