Four villages in Liuyang of Hunan province have recently earned the label "Village Group of Doctorates".

　　Located in the northern part of Liuyang city, the villages of Yangtian, Jiaoqiao, Shangfu and Yangliu have so far produced 36 PhD holders.

　　The number of university students who call the four villages home represent more than one-eighth of the villages' total population.

　　Zhou Qifeng, the current president of the elite Peking University, comes from Shangfu village himself.

　　Villagers in the group have attributed their growing number of doctorates to locals paying attention to education.

　　They said it has been a longtime tendency for them to instill the importance of education in their children.
