ZTE launches R&D base in Changsha

ZTE, Chinese multinational telecom and network solutions company, will build its largest global research and development base in Changsha, Central China’s Hunan province.

On June 30, Hunan Governor Du Jiahao announced the construction of ZTE Changsha base in Changsha National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone. Changsha Party Chief Yi Lianhong and Hou Weigui, president of ZTE, addressed the ceremony.

ZTE Corporation, China’s largest listed telecoms equipment company, is a globally-leading provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions. Last December, Hunan provincial government signed a strategic framework agreement with ZTE for Hunan’s informatization and new energy construction.

Changsha, the capital city of Hunan, started cooperation talks with ZTE in April and closed the deal in two months’ time. The ZTE Changsha base, to be built in two years, will be mainly used for production, research and development of communications products. It is expected to achieve more than 4 billion yuan ($644.73 million) of annual output value in four to five years.

Yi, Changsha’s top leader, said that the city’s electronic information industry will have a new trump card with the opening of the ZTE base. With the company’s technology strength and innovation power, the transportation edge of Changsha, and neighboring areas, the base will lead industry development, he said.

He also expressed hope that international enterprises will participate and support Changsha’s development in a broader and deeper level.

Hou said that it fully shows the efficiency of the local government that the project was launched within two months’ time. The ZTE Changsha base will play its advantages and make new contributions to the city’s development, he said.
