On the morning of Sept. 24, the 2015 public memorial ceremony to commemorate Emperor Shun was held at the Jiuyi Mountain Square, Ningyuan County, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province, where Emperor Shun was buried. It was organized by the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, and undertaken by the People’s Governments of Yongzhou City and Ningyuan County.

The legendary Emperor is considered the founder of the Chinese civilization and morality. Early since the Xia Dynasty around 4000 years ago, the grand ceremony has been an occasion for descendants to show respect for their ancestors and carry forward national ethos. And the ceremony has been included in the third batch of the national intangible cultural heritage in 2010. This year is the fifth grand ceremony held by the Hunan Provincial People’s Government since 2005.
