  Editor's note: China is booming and so is its high street. From fashion magnates like Vera Wang, Jimmy Choo, and Anna Sui to fashion novas like Alexander Wang and Christopher Bu, more and more fashion designers of Chinese origins have gained international success thanks to China's growing importance in the global luxury market and China's stronger presence in the fashion industry.

  Their works, favored by political figures as well as superstars, are often simple and implicit, with a strong sense of urban flavor, combining a little bit of the "Chinese" element with international style.

  1. Vera Wang

  Nicknamed the queen of bridal design, Vera Wang is renowned for dressing celebrities for both red carpet events and weddings.   3. Jason Wu

  Jason Wu, a Chinese Canadian fashion designer based in New York City, made his name by designing dresses for U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama on several occasions, including during the first and second inauguration of Barack Obama. Besides being favored by the first lady, Jason Wu also designed clothes for Hollywood superstars like Michelle Monaghan and Zhang Ziyi.

  8.Jimmy Choo

  Despite Jimmy Choo's worldwide fame, it's little known that the fashion guru is of Chinese origin. Born in Malaysia into a family of shoemakers, Jimmy is actually a Cantonese descendent who values Chinese culture and tradition. When choosing the location of a new store, he regularly asks fortune-tellers for help in order to find a lucky site. The footwear designer was honored by the Hong Kong Design Center with the Outstanding Chinese Designer Award in 2011 for his achievement in the fashion industry. His celebrity clients include Michelle Obama, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Angelina Jolie.
