Secretary of the CPC Yueyang Municipal Committee Sheng Ronghua paid a visit to Vietnam, Indonesia and India from Nov. 6 to 14, aiming to expand maritime cooperation with ASEAN countries along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and promote common development.

In May 2015, the shipping route from Chenglingji port, Yueyang to the ASEAN was officially opened in accordance with the strategy of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which combined river transport and marine transport directly and has greatly shortened shipping time.

Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh Port is an important stop along the shipping route. Secretary Sheng talked with leaders of Ho Chi Minh Port and principals of Vietnam Branch of COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. (COSCON) on establishing strategic partnership to enhance maritime cooperation. The two sides reached agreements on establishing a COSCON industrial park and setting a branch in Chenglingji new harbor district.

The delegation visited Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association and exchanged views on port construction, tourism development, and economic and trade cooperation. Senior leaders of the Association extended warm welcome to Sheng and discussed about visiting Yueyang to expand cooperation in such fields as petrochemical industry, biomedicine, food processing, leading-edge building materials and tourism.

Secretary Sheng also paid a special visit to a Yueyang-born entrepreneur who has started a business in India and encouraged him to lead and help more Yueyang enterprises to go global and attract more Indian businessmen to invest in Yueyang.

Yueyang will firmly uphold the five principles of innovation, coordination, green development, opening-up and sharing to put forward the strategy of “one zone, one departure port and four ports of entry”, so as to create a brighter future together with ASEAN countries and embrace fruitful results.
