The Year of Changsha, part of Culture City of East Asia 2017, will be held in Changsha from April 18 to April 20. Japan’s Kyoto and South Korea’s Daegu will send delegations headed by municipal leaders to participate in a series of cultural activities.

On the evening of April 18, Changsha Concert Hall will hold a folk music concert themed "East Asia, Happy Changsha". The concert will be given by the China National Music Orchestra. It will be a musical feast. Classical musical compositions familiar to Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean audiences will be staged, including China’s "Jasmine", "A Moonlit Night on the Spring River", South Korea’s "Alirang", Japan’s "Spring of the Northland" and "Sakura", and Hunan’s "Liuyang River".

On April 19, Changsha City will host two major themed activities. The opening ceremony gala will be held during the day. At the ceremony, the Kyoto Art Troupe will tap dance and play Japanese lutes; the South Korean Art Troupe will perform its traditional fan dance, Kayagum solo, and opera excerpts played at the Daegu International Musical Celebration. Changsha, as the host, will present outstanding art programs and acrobatics shows.

The Eleventh National Reading Forum will be held on April 19. Kyoto City Library and Daegu City Library directors, together with library contributors and scholars from across China will exchange views on how to enhance the public’s reading ability and build a universal reading system.
