An off road mountain biking competition took place among the gorgeous mountain scenery of Jiangbei town, in Changsha county on Sept 24.

The event drew more than 200 cyclists from across the country to compete in three categories – the Men's 24-kilometer race, Men's 16-km race and the Women's 12-km race.

The racing tracks are set naturally on the local topographic conditions winding ups and downs through the countryside, navigating barriers and wooden bridges, seesaws, and planks.

After fierce competition, Guo Xinwei, Chen Xiangyuan and Chen Ying came out on top taking home first place in 24-km race, 16-km race and 12-km race respectively as well as 5,000-yuan ($755) in prize money.

Changsha local Huang Bingzhi, 67, was the oldest rider taking part, having been a mountain biker for many years. He has even ridden his way to Northwest China's Qinghai province and South China's Hainan province from the Hunan province capital.

"One week ago, rider friends and I came to Jiangbei town to get to know the racing track. We agree that Jiangbei boasts a beautiful scenery and good air quality, and is a perfect place for the off road cycling," Huang said in an interview.

In recent years, Changsha county has been speeding up efforts to develop its sports industry, and has progressed well in mass competitive sports.

"Mountain biking is an integration of leisure, tourism and sports in Jiangbei," said an official of the town. "The activity will help boost local agricultural sightseeing and promote Jiangbei to develop into a whole-area tourism destination."
