Governor Xu Highlights Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone Construction

　　Hunan Governor Xu Dazhe presided over the fourth leading group session on Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone construction on October 9, 2017. He focused on Dongting Lake ecological treatment, promoted Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone construction, and announced new measures for central government environmental protection inspector instruction.

　　CPC Hunan Provincial Standing Committee member and Executive Vice Governor Chen Xiangqun, Vice Governor Sui Zhongcheng, and Secretary General Wang Qun also attended.

　　Provincial department heads gave reports at the meeting. They included the Hunan Development and Reform Commission, the Hunan Economic and Information Technology Commission, the Hunan Provincial Finance Department, the Hunan Provincial Land Resources Department, the Hunan Provincial Environmental Protection Department, and the Hunan Provincial Transportation Department. In-depth discussions were made around specific issues such as planning, environmental governance, industrial restructuring, and supported policy making.

　　Governor Xu stated that building Dongting Lake ecological and economic zone is vital for Hunan’s economic and social development, national food safety, and Yangtze River ecological balance and water safety. Xu added, “Hunan should protect and improve Dongting Lake to promote green, circular, and low-carbon development.”

　　Xu stressed overall planning and replacing the current multiple plans for city and county development with a single master plan. He said efforts should be made to coordinate tasks and goals in developing the Dongting Lake ecological and economic zone. Targeted special plans will be introduced and planning systems will be improved to identify the development direction of the zone.
