Yuan Longping Awarded Future Science Prize

　　The 2018 Future Science Prize Award Ceremony was held in Beijing on November 18. “Father of Hybrid Rice” Yuan Longping was awarded as one of the Life Science Laureates, together with another two scientists, Li Jiayang and Zhang Qifa.

　　Though being absent due to health reasons, Yuan delivered an acceptance speech in a video. He said, “Thanks to the judging panel for this prize. It is a glorious honor for me. I would like to, on behalf of the hybrid rice research team, extend sincere appreciation. This year marks the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up. Comrade Deng Xiaoping emphasized that science and technology constitute a primary productive force, which gave huge incentive to the intellectuals. Hybrid rice development benefited from this thought. Hybrid rice can feed 70 million more people every year, and is helping to solve food problems in China. We are now devoted in super hybrid rice research, and have gained remarkable achievements. Scientific research never ends. I have two dreams that one day we can enjoy the cool in rice shade, and promote hybrid rice to the world.I hope hybrid rice will benefit people all around the world, and play its role in guaranteeing world’s food safety”.
