On July 15, the Former Residence of the known Chinese democratic revolutionary Qiu Jin opened to the public in Zhuzhou. On the very day 108 years ago, she died a martyr’s death. Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Xu Yousheng and Secretary of the CPC Zhuzhou Municipal Committee He Anjie attended the opening ceremony. Li Fengxiang, the fifth-generation grandson of Qiu, was present on the occasion.

Qiu and her husband Wang Zifang lived here when they married. At the age of 19, Qiu got married to Wang, the son of a rich squire in central Hunan. They lived together in Dachong Village (formerly a part of Xiangtan County) of Qingshuitang Sub-district in Zhuzhou. Qiu named this house Huai Ting (literally means pagoda tree courtyard). Over 1000 old photos and dozens of objects are on display here, reflecting Qiu Jin’s short but valiant life.
