On Tuesday, the 2016 China Writers Rich List was released by West China Metropolis Daily and Great Star Media, offering the 70 top royalty-grossing Chinese writers in the year 2015.

Their income from print books ranged from 32 million yuan ($4.93 million) on the top to 1 million yuan.

Though some doubted the figures are inaccurate, others said the list shows reading trends in the country: fantasy, children's books, chicken-soup-for-the-soul type of books are popular and young readers are the majority of print book consumers.

He started writing online and is known for a 2002 book based on his experiences at Peking University, There They Were, which was later turned into a movie. He made for himself a bigger name and bigger fortune with a fantasy series.
