Hunan Sees Surge in Auto Parts Imports

From January to April 2016, Hunan imported automobile parts of 1.26 billion yuan, up 5.7 times over the same period of last year. In spite of an overall downturn in imports and exports, Hunan’s automobile parts imports has maintained increase of over 100% for seven consecutive months. In this April alone, the import value reached 480 million yuan.
 
Foreign-funded enterprises were the main purchasers, contributing 98.1% of the imports of automobile parts.
 
Jeep Cherokee's good sales was a major cause for the surge of automobile parts imports. 32,425 cars have been sold in the first four months this year, with 9,201 being sold in April alone, ranking 21th in the domestic SUV market. GAC Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, producer of Jeep Cherokee, contributed over 80% of Hunan’s total imports of automobile parts, becoming the biggest automobile parts importer in the province.
