Chinese and International Cyclists Challenge “Heaven-linking Avenue” at Tianmen Mountain

1,372 Chinese and international cyclists competed at the “Heaven-linking Avenue” in Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie on June 26, 2016. These cyclists were from tens of provinces and regions including Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Chongqing, Hainan, Jiangsu, and Taiwan, as well as France and New Zealand. 

 

Starting from Zhangjiajie downtown at an altitude of 180 meters, the cyclists rode for 16 km to reach Tianmen Cave which stands at 1100 meters above sea level, rising by 920 meters. 


 
Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain Road, a “Heaven-linking Avenue” reaching the top of the mountain, is reputed as “a wonder road of the world”. This 10.77 km long road raises sharply from an altitude of 200 meters to 1100 meters, with 99 bends along the way. 
 


Tianmen Mountain “Heaven-linking Avenue” Bicycle Race is a highlight of the first Zhangjiajie Outdoor Carnival for Rural Area. It was organized to accelerate local tourism development, and further integrate tourism with sports and culture, so as to give a boost to Zhangjiajie’s tourism upgrading and transformation.
