After the flood control consultative conference held on the evening of July 16, Governor of Hunan Province Du Jiahao headed related department chiefs of the provincial government for an inspection tour to Anhua County of Yiyang City, which suffered most in the flood disaster. The inspection was aiming at overseeing and guiding flood control and disaster relief in the county.

At about 10 p.m. on July 16, the delegation, after over three hours’ driving, reached Zhongdi Village of Dongping Town in Anhua County, where villagers were conducting rescue and relief work in the rain since many houses were collapsed. Du learnt in detail the losses caused by the flood and villagers’ transfer condition, after visiting many disaster sites.

In the small hours of July 17, Du listened to the reports on flood control and disaster relief in the county.

The heavy rains since July 11 were unprecedented in scope, violence and rainfall. Up to now, over 415,000 people were affected in Yiyang. Du stressed that restoration and reconstruction after disaster should be actively conducted, experience and lessons of flood control and disaster relief seriously learned, flood situation practically assessed, relief funds and materials timely appropriated, and agricultural losses earnestly reimbursed, so as to restore regular production and life in the flood-stricken areas as soon as possible and reduce losses to the minimum.
