Père David's Deer Discovered in Hunan East Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve

According to the Hunan East Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve on August 21, 70 to 90 Père David's deer were discovered in Dongting Lake region during the 3-day investigation on wild Père David's deer during the first flood season. Experts said that the information on deer's migration route, distribution, and inhabitation during flood season in Dongting Lake region obtained from this investigation will play a positive role in working out scientific measures to protect Père David's deer.

The investigation showed that the living situation of Père David's deer during flood season in Dongting Lake region is not optimistic. Two Père David's deer died and eight were trapped this year due to disasters like flood. Hunan East Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve will report these investigation results, and suggest building a wildlife corridor in Dongting Lake district for better protection of Père David's deer.
