Thousands of eggs are boiled in the hot spring at the same time, attracting numerous tourists and local people.

On April 21, a large folk activity was held in Reshui Town of Rucheng County in Hunan Province, to celebrate the Sanyuesan Festival (the third day of the third month in the Chinese lunar calendar). It is also known as the Double Third Festival and Shangsi Festival. During the festival, people often eat eggs boiled with Capsella bursa-pastoris, known by its common name shepherd's-purse. The 33,000 eggs were boiled in three batches, setting a record as the largest number of eggs boiled in the hot spring in China.

“Sanyuesan” is a traditional festival for the Han nationality and many minorities, for it is considered to be the birthday of Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor, ancestor of Chinese people). People would go for spring outing and picnic by the water on this day.
