Rednet (Beijing): The prize presenting ceremony of 2014 Global Youth Photography Competition in China, organized by U.S. National Geographic, was held in Sanlitun Primary School of Chaoyang District, Beijing, on May 13. Four photographs won the first prize from 10,000 pieces of works of four categories of photographs by teenagers from all parts of China. Gong Zijie, 15-year-old student from Changsha foreign language schools, won the first prize of wild vacation category.

Two years ago, Gong Zijie went to Forbidden Palace of Beijing with his father. Gong Zijie had kept waiting outside the wall over one and half hour before he shot the picture, for catching the moment of showing the strength and the loneliness of a grass. His hard work pays off eventually; on the red wall of Forbidden City, a small and solitary grass was standing against in the wind in his picture.

Xie Hailong, deputy secretary of China Photographers Association and one of judges of the contest, gave his review, "With neat lines, a small circles of the tiles are very much alive, so that it is a picture of serious place with lively scene. The key is the shadow of a grass. Gong cleverly chose a shadow for achieving good effects. It is a very good piece of work of observation, thinking and choice, and it is the subjective projection of his mind. ”

Li Shaobai, a renowned photographer, said "he is extremely bold with striking contrast of colors. Black, red and blue become the background of a small grass, which highlight its loneliness and weakness. The picture is a silent, but it indicates that life appears under the shadow of the suppressed Palace. ”

Terrence Adamson, CLO of U.S. National Geographic, sent a video to congratulate winners at the awards ceremony. He said that the competition had achieved fruitful and surprisingly results by teenagers with excellent composition, innovation and photographic talents.

Global Youth Photography Competition of U.S. National Geographic selects four categories of works: amazing animals, adventures, quirky and true, and wild vacation.
