By the end of 2016, a total of 56.6 billion yuan had been invested in infrastructure projects related to supply of water and natural gas in urban areas, and treatment of urban sewage and garbage, as was released by the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Hunan Province on Feb. 22, 2017. Of total, 437 such projects were completed and 251 under construction.

The water quality of public water supply has been improved in all townships above county level in Hunan. Over 80% of counties (cities) in Hunan have access to natural gas through pipelines. The harmless disposal rate of household garbage and the disposal rate of wastewater of townships above county level reached over 99.57% and 93% respectively.

Changde City is selected as one of national pilot sponge cities, and Yueyang, Jinshi cities, Wangcheng District and Fenghuang County as provincial pilot sponge cities. About 3.13 billion yuan has been injected in these sponge city projects, with 61 projects completed and 95 ones under construction.

Changsha is included into the pilot project of construction of national comprehensive drainage systems, and Chenzhou, Yongzhou, and Xiangtan into that of the construction of provincial underground storm drains. The treatment of black-odor water in urban areas is in full swing across the province, which has yielded practical results.

This year Hunan will continue to push forward infrastructure projects construction related to supply of water and natural gas in urban areas, and treatment of urban sewage and garbage, and promote waste sorting and diversion of rain and sewage water, franchise market normalization, and electricity generation projects through refuse incineration.
