Gold Tea Planting Lift Xiangxi People out of Poverty

The photo taken on March 27, 2017 shows tea farmers are busy picking spring tea in Aikou Village, Majing’ao Town, Jishou City. The village has been planting tea for one hundred years, and it is the main producer of Xiangxi Huangjin (gold) tea. The village has initiated mass planting of gold tea since 2012, which helps lift its people out of poverty. In 2015 the village built 1,100 square meters of tea processing plants, with the annual tea processing hitting more than 10,000 kilograms and the output value reaching 12 million yuan. At present, there are more than 700 households contributing to tea industry in the village. They have planted 13,000 mu (866 ha.) of Xiangxi gold tea, achieving per capita net income of more than 4,000 yuan.
