48th Earth Day Events in Hunan Scheduled

  April 22 marks the 48th Earth Day. The theme of this year's events in Hunan is "to save and make intensive use of resources, and advocate green and simple life." The events will last from April 11 to 23.

  An inspection team consisting of more than 10 members, including law enforcement staff, deputies to the people’s congress and CPPCC members visited Huaihua to study environmental protection in mining areas on April 11, 2017. The inspection tour marked the beginning of series of Hunan Earth Day events which are hosted by the Hunan Department of Land and Resources (HDLR).

  More events to be held include:

  A press conference on Hunan Geological Disaster Prevention and Control Scheme 2017 will be held on April 21.

  On April 22, a 4.22-km charity run will be arranged to celebrate the 48th Earth Day on Orange Isle in Changsha. The event is to be co-hosted by the Publicity Office of HDLR and Changsha-based Xiaoxiang Morning Herald. Those who complete a 4.22-km run will get a due reward provided by Morning Foundation. All the money will be used for building libraries in schools which are vulnerable to hidden geological hazards. The event is open to all ages and the registration started on April 11. About 30,000 people are expected to apply for it.

  The Hunan Provincial Geological Museum will hold a themed seminar on “Unique Zhangjiajie Geomorphology”, and display Hunan’s first puppet show of lotosaurus, “Save Lotosaurus”. And the Hunan Provincial Geological Society will organize a series of activities, including "scientific knowledge popularization on campus".
