The world’s first 12-meter intelligent drive bus, developed by the CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, took a pilot run on July 18, 2017. It automatically performed traction, swerve, and lane change, with the max speed reaching 40 km per hour.

This bus runs based on the technologies of artificial intelligence (AI), visual computing, radar detection, monitoring device, and the global positioning system (GPS). Without people operating, a computer can direct the bus to slightly turn, change lanes, overtake, and decelerate to stop.

The longer the bus is, the more challenged the intelligent drive technology would be. This electricity-driven bus is China’s first using the technology. It can carry 80 passengers. The inside and outside design are in red and black colors.

Testing data shows that, this bus runs at 40 km/hour when driving straightly, and at 15 km/hour when swerving.

Eight sensors on the bus can identify vehicles, pedestrians, and other obstacles nearby. The radars can find the obstacles 200 meters ahead; the cameras can identify pedestrians, traffic signals, and vehicles; and, the high precision positioning system can achieve centimeter-level high-accuracy positioning.
