World Food Day Celebrated in Hunan

　　On 16 October, 2017 a week-long event to celebrate the importance of food was launched in Changde as part of the 37th World Food Day (WFD) celebrations.

　　It was co-hosted by the Hunan Provincial Grain Administration, the Hunan Agricultural Committee, the Hunan Provincial Department of Education, the Hunan Provincial Science &Technology Department, the Hunan Women’s Federation, and Changde Municipal People’s Government.

　　Focusing on the national “quality grain and oil program”, the event presented Hunan’s “quality grain and oil” action plan. It introduced scientific food storage technologies to increase farmers’ income; and called on cherishing and saving food, and for scientific consumption by all people, to reduce food waste. All these efforts can increase food storage, and safeguard the country’s food safety.

　　This year’s WFD theme is “Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development”. During the week, a series of activities are to be held around the province, including popularizing grain planting, storage, and related technologies and services to farmers; promoting quality food products and dietary nutrition knowledge to households; and, advocating saving food and scientific consumption in schools.
