Targeted Poverty Alleviation in Hunan: Villagers become painters with salary of about 3,000 yuan/month
Since 2016, Xiaohe township government of Liuyang City, Hunan, China has established rural painting studios and trained villagers to paint hometown landscape, and developed the decorative picture industry. This is to foster targeted poverty alleviation. Villagers can learn painting for free of charge, and then work for painting studios. They can earn about 3,000 yuan/month.
The rural decorative painting has great market potential. A painting studio has purchased 50,000 works this year, some of which are sold to the Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore and Europe. The total sales volume of decorative painting of Xiaohe town in 2017 exceeded 1 million yuan.
