Meixi Lake Lantern Show 2016 to Kick off

Glamorous lanterns in various shapes were lit up around Meixi Lake on the evening of Feb. 2.

  The Meixi Lake Lantern Show, in its fifth year, is a grand event to Changsha citizens’ expectation.

  Since Feb. 2, lanterns would be lit up to greet visitors beforehand, and the official launching will be on Feb. 13. The lantern show will last until Feb. 23, the day after Chinese Lantern Festival, displaying fascinating lanterns, intangible cultural heritage performances, and offering various kinds of special snacks at the same time.

  42 sets of lanterns were mainly distributed at Planning Exhibition Plaza and Yinxin (gingko) Park in Meixi Lake western area. And some smaller lanterns will be scattered from main entrance to Meixi Lake International New Town, to fountain plaza, Qifu (blessing) Avenue, and Taohualing Scenic Area.

  A new carnival playground will be open on Feb. 11, entertain parents and children with various art, sports and film facilities.

  Spring Festival Temple Fair from Feb. 13 to Feb. 23 will consist of six country-theme booths, such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, Europe and America, offering Chinese and overseas special snacks.

  How to get there:

  Visitors can take Changsha Metro Line 2 Westward Extension to Meixi Lake station, and then walk westward to get to the Planning Exhibition Plaza.

  Activity schedule:

  Lantern show: 18:00 – 22:00, February 2 to February 23;

  Carnival playground: February 11 to February 23;

  Temple fair: 11:00 – 21:00 (Mon. to Thur.), 11:00 – 22:00 (Fri. to Sun.); February 13 to February 23;
