In first eight months of 2016, the total retail sales of consumer goods in Hunan reached 835.37 billion yuan, up by 11.6 percent year-on-year, according to the latest statistics released by the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province recently. The province’s domestic trade has made new contributions in fostering its steady growth, adjusting economic structure, guaranteeing supply, and improving people’s livelihood.
In the first half of the year, the online retail sales of goods generated by wholesale and retail sales units above designated size increased 40.3 percent year on year to 2.626 billion yuan. The retail sales of hotel and catering units above designated size gained 8.629 billion yuan, up by 9.4 percent year on year.
In terms of sales value of different commodities by category, 20 commodities of the 22 ones in units above designated size witnessed year-on-year growth. Firstly, the sales of basic living goods maintained stable growth. From January to August, in the units above designated size, the sales of grain, oil, and foodstuff increased 19.1 percent; that of daily necessities 18.3 percent; that of garments, footwear, hats, and knitwear 9.1 percent. Secondly, housing-related goods enjoyed rapid growth. From January to August, in the units above designated size, the sales of building materials increased 37.8 percent; that of furniture 27.2 percent; that of hardware, electrical materials and appliances 19.0 percent. Thirdly, the sales of automobile goods saw a pickup in growth. Fourthly, the sales of culture-related goods concerning consumption upgrade had a rapid increase. The sales of office supplies in units above designated size increased 21.6 percent over the same period of last year.
Enterprises (units) above designated size refer to those wholesale enterprises (units) with an annual revenue from primary business of 20 million yuan and above, those retail enterprises (units) with an annual revenue from primary business of 5 million yuan and above, and those hotel and catering enterprises (units) with an annual revenue from primary business of 2 million yuan and above.
