Miao People Celebrate Traditional New Year

Miao people in festive costumes celebrate the traditional New Year festival in the Miao’s calendar in Shibadong Village, Shuanglong Town, Huayuan County on January 15, 2017. A series of festivities were held that day, including playing Miao drums, offering sacrifice, making ciba cakes, catching fishes in paddy fields, and enjoying get-together feast.

　　Traditionally, Miao people celebrate their New Year festival as a harvest day, marking the end of the whole-year hard work, and the beginning of a happy and prosperous New Year. The date of the New Year festival may vary in different branches or regions of Miao minority.
