On July 3, Changsha’s China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (CHCRI) delivered its DZ397 tunnel boring machine (TBM) to Moscow for subway tunnel construction. This is CHCRI’s first self-developed TBM tailored for the Russian market and marks the entrance of ‘Made-in-China TBM’ to the European market.
The greatest challenge is low temperature resistance. CHCRI developed a master drive which can work at minus 20 degrees centigrade. Heating systems, including hydraulic power packs and transducers, are used to adapt the machine to Russia’s extremely low temperatures.
Key steel structural parts and some purchased parts are made of low temperature resistant materials. Each part is specially designed and irreplaceable.
In order to meet Russia’s importing shipment requirements, CHCRI custom-tailored a disassembly shipment plan, including packing, water-proof, and antifreezing measures. It uses VCI (volatile corrosion inhibitor) films and blue film wraps to protect the equipment during shipment.
Innovative bilingual instructions and operating systems can assist both Chinese and Russian technicians in the operation.
