  On December 18, 2017, in Changsha, Hunan Vice Governor Sui Zhongcheng met with Robert H. Grubbs, a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering member and Nobel prize winner in chemistry and Mark S. Humayun, a United States National Medal of Science winner.

  These experts came to sign an agreement on intelligent retinal implant project with the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone. It will focus on new generation intelligent retinal products industrialization to help restore eyesight to those with visual impairments.

  Vice Governor Sui briefed them on the situation in Hunan province. He said, "There are currently about 40 million people with visual impairments in the world, and about 8 million in China. The intelligent retinal implant project will bring cutting-edge science and technology, and considerable economic benefits; and also be a blessing for those with visual impairments and greatly benefit society." "Hunan will support the project to start operation as soon as possible to benefit the visually impaired." He added.

  The two experts said that they would carry out scientific research on ophthalmology in the cooperative project, popularize ophthalmological education, and promote more sophisticated scientific research projects in Changsha.
