2019 Hunan Performance Group New Year Concert to Open January 23

The 2019 Hunan Performance Group New Year Concert will be held at the 3rd floor of Hunan Grand Theater at 20:00 on January 23, 2019. The audience will be offered a feat of music.

The concert includes many classics such as “Festival Chinese New Year”, “Happy New Year”, and “My Motherland”, and national orchestral music, suona (double-reed horn), erhu (a Chinese two-stringed bowed instrument), and bamboo flute performances.

Many famous musicians are expected to perform, including

Erhu players Deng Jiandong and Zhang Yinyue;

Bamboo flute player Yuan Feifang;

Liuqin (a four-stringed Chinese mandolin with a pear-shaped body) master Tang Yiwen;

Jinghu (a Chinese bowed string instrument) performer Song Xianhui;

Peking opera artist Guo Xiao;

Percussionist Ma Li;

Young singers Zeng Yong, Kong Qingxue, and Yu Haiyang;

Guzheng (a Chinese zither) player Li Lei; and,

Ruanxian (a plucked stringed instrument) player Li Qing.

The New Year Concert will be performed by the Hunan Song and Dance Theatre National Orchestra. It will be conducted by Wang Wujian, professor of the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) and the orchestra’s art director.

Hunan-born students studying in CCOM, National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Wuhan Conservatory of Music, and Zhejiang Conservatory of Music will also participate.

The audience can enjoy new adaptation of traditional folk music, hybrid folk music and Peking opera, as well as folk songs and drum music.
