Publicity Campaign Launched to Ban Fireworks and Firecrackers

February 12 is the eighth day of the first month of the lunar New Year. As the number eight symbolizes “expanding riches” in Chinese, many store owners choose to open their stores on this day for good luck. They are used to setting off fireworks and firecrackers to celebrate the opening of their businesses in the new year.

On this day, volunteers, policemen, and the urban management and law enforcement team from Dongsha Community, Donghu Street, Furong District, Changsha, came to stores in the community. They issued publicity materials to store owners and called for no use of fireworks and firecrackers. Instead, they set off electronic firecrackers to wish them an auspicious beginning.
