A book release ceremony for the long documentary literature Shaodong People in Laos was held on March 11, 2019. Written by Xiao Qiji and Li Zhaohui, the book tells the stories of 24 Shaodong people’s start-up in Laos. It conveys the Shaodong spirit of “Unity and Hardworking, Arduous Entrepreneurship, Pragmatic Development, and Daring to Be the First”.

Shandong is an inland county, neither near border or sea. Among the total population of 1.3 million, there are more than 400,000 businessmen. Among the 100,000 Hunan people who do business in Laos, 80% are from Shaodong. Their enterprises and stores can be seen throughout Laos. Their businesses cover infrastructure, steel, automobiles, communications, hardware, and trade.

The county has been committed to building an open economic system and actively implementing the “Belt and Road” initiative. It encourages private enterprises to become bigger and stronger. Taking the International Trade Town and Xingsha Logistics Park as the leaders, it will build a global modern business and trade logistics system, relying on more than 30 professional markets, 200 logistics lines, 300 import and export enterprises, and 2,000 overseas sales platforms.
