Construction site of the double-line shield tunnel in Xiangxing section of Changsha Subway Line 3

The Xiangxing section of Changsha Subway Line 3 was facing a vital period. The shield machine named as "Pioneer" successfully passed through the Liuyang River Tunnel of Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway, April 8. It is the first successful completion of the construction in China for the subway shield construction under a high-speed railway tunnel.

The shield equipment, which is about 80 meters long, was excavating underground in Kaiyuan Road. Above it, it is the Liuyang River Tunnel of Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway. As the main artery of the north-south traffic rail in China, the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway has more than 280 high-speed trains passing every day. On average, there is a train passing every three to four minutes during the rush hours. Intensive traffic flow of the high-speed rail could not stop for the construction of the subway. To ensure smooth excavation, the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed train slows down to 160 km/h while entering the section.
