The Hunan Provincial China Communist Youth League Committee launched a classics reading activity in Changsha on April 21, for World Book Day. More than 100 young volunteers, social workers, painters, and internet writers participated.

Some outstanding youth representatives recommended and shared their favored books. The representatives included: Zeng Dengke, vice chairman of the Hunan Internet Writers Association, and winner of the Best New Act Award of the Mao Dun Literary Prize; Chen Li, leader of the Hunan Street Dance League; Wu Yanhui, an outstanding Hunan painter; Li Wei, member of the Hunan Committee of the All-China Youth Federation; and, Wang Peng, a national social worker model in youth affairs, and one of Hunan’s “Top 10 social worker models”.

This activity was in the response to the Central Government’s call for nationwide reading. It aimed to celebrate World Book Day on April 23, and the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement. It is a part of the 100 activities with themes for the “Pursuing Dreams”, and “Contributing to New Era” initiatives. It is a bid to encourage young people to cultivate reading habits, and pursue sound growth.
