On April 23 and 24, Du Jiahao, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee, met with a Dominican delegation led by José Ramon Peralta, administrative minister of the Presidency. They came to China to attend the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, and visited Hunan after the forum.
Briunny Garabito Segura, Dominican ambassador to China; and Hunan provincial leaders Xie Jianhui and He Baoxiang attended the meeting or the tour.
Secretary Du, on behalf of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the People’s Government of Hunan Province, welcomed the delegation, and recalled Hunan delegation’s visit to Dominica last September. He said, “Hunan is the hometown of Chairman Mao Zedong, the founder of the People’s Republic of China. It has played an important role in the modern and contemporary Chinese history. It is also a traditional agricultural and industrial powerhouse.”
He continued, “Hunan’s economic aggregate ranked eighth nationwide last year. Its engineering machinery, rail transit, electronics and information, new energy, new materials, food processing, and other industries lead the country. Dominica is a famous tourist destination worldwide. Its tobacco, and food industries have distinct characteristics. Both sides have strong industrial complementarities and broad cooperation space.” He expected to keep deepening exchanges and cooperation with Dominica in various fields under the “Belt and Road” initiative, to achieve mutual benefits and common development. Hunan would encourage and introduce more companies and tourists to Dominica, he added.
Dominican ambassador expressed his honor to visit Chairman Mao’s hometown. He remarked that Hunan is a good friend of Dominica. Under the “Belt and Road” initiative, Dominica would further intensify government-enterprise exchanges with Hunan, deepen cooperation in economy, trade, tourism, and agriculture, especially in hybrid rice and tobacco, so as to achieve win-win results.
During stay in Hunan, the delegation visited Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center, Yuan Long Ping High-Tech Agriculture Co., Ltd., Broad Homes Industrial International Co., Ltd., Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science &Technology Development Co., Ltd., Sany Group, China Tobacco Hunan Industrial Corporation, and other enterprises. They learnt about Hunan’s achievements in tourism, tobacco, agriculture, and infrastructure construction. They also exchanged ideas with relevant departments and enterprises in Hunan on further deepening cooperation.
