Miao People Celebrate Girls’ Day

　　The festival falls on the eighth day of the fourth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, in commemoration of Yang Li'niang, an ancient Miao heroine of the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The festival, which is specific to Miao women only, is celebrated in the Miao regions of Hunan Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Guizhou Province that are near to Suining County. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
