The 18th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students is ongoing. Competitors took a written examination at the Hunan Mass Media Vocational and Technical College on July 25.

It was the first challenge of the “Cross the Bridge” qualifying competition, consisting of listening comprehension, multiple-choice, true or false questions, fill-in-the-blanks, and writing. The scores would be accounted into the “Cross the Bridge” competition results.

The written examination tested the examinees’ Chinese language knowledge and usage, and comprehension of Chinese culture, from the aspects of characters, phrases, and sentences. The examinees were required to understand “Why”, instead of only “What”.

The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students is an international Chinese language contest hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters. Initiated in 2002, it has been held for 17 sessions and had more than one million participators from over 110 countries.
