Hunan's scientific and technological innovations over the past 70 years

In 1954, China's first aero engine was successfully developed in Zhuzhou.

In 1956, Professor Chen Guoda's "Diwa Theory" was listed in the World History of Science.

In 1973, Yuan Longping's research on the utilization of rice heterosis was the first succeed in the world.

In the late 1970s, the theory of single-roller driving of aluminum foil rolling mills by Zhong Jue was a breakthrough of the field.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Lushan type 4 high-power heavy-duty freight electric locomotive, Dongfeng VIII diesel locomotive, and cone-drilling machine for grand tunnel; the first in the country to develop in vitro fertilization, embryo transfer technology, and new Chinese medicine of treating hepatitis. The new variety of animals and plants were cultivated such as triple larger crucian carp and carp,  double-low rapeseed, high-quality camelia seeds, hybrid pepper.

In the 21st century, innovations keep blooming in the field of high-yield hybrid rice, supercomputers, ultra-high-speed trains, low-speed magnetic floats, C/C aviation brake materials; strategic industries kept emerging and promoted, innovations kept emerging such as the first 8-inch IGBT production line, Large-caliber tunnel boring equipment (shield machine), "Manatee" deep-sea drilling rig, large-angle ion implanter, permanent magnet synchronous traction motor and other cutting-edge products.

From 2016 to 2018, Hunan won 56 national science and technology awards. Scientific and technological comprehensive strengths of Hunan province have been steadily improved, 58% of scientific and technological progress contribute to the economy.
