Gourd art industry provides locals a better livelihood in Guizhou

45-year-old Li Dehua is from Qianxi County in Bijie, southwest China's Guizhou province. In 2018, he saw an opportunity in the gourd business, and returned to his hometown to plant gourds and develop the gourd pyrography industry. He established a gourd art center and provided jobs for locals with disabilities and from poor families, helping them to earn a stable income.

"I feel happy to do the thing I like, especially when it can also help others increase their income," Li said. He is now planning to expand his business and employ more disabled and poor people.
