The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) has recently released a work plan for “urban physical examination” in 2020. Under the theme of “Preventing the epidemic, strengthening weak links and expanding domestic demand”, 36 sample cities, including Tianjin, Shanghai, Wuhan and Changsha, will be evaluated to identify problems and shortcomings in urban development, planning, construction and management.
The evaluation aims to implement President Xi Jinping’s important instruction on establishing an evaluation mechanism for “urban physical examination”, promote the construction of cities free from “urban maladies”, and advance the high-quality development of urban living environment. It covers 8 aspects, namely, ecological livability, health and comfort, safety and resilience, convenient transportation, style and features, cleanliness and order, diversity and inclusiveness, and innovation and vitality.
The evaluation will adopt the 2019 statistical data, remote sensing data, and social big data, to comprehensively analyze this year’s survey results of the sample cities’ urban construction in terms of preventing the epidemic, strengthening weak links and expanding domestic demand.
A questionnaire survey will also be conducted among people of different age groups and occupations in sample cities, so as to fully understand the urban construction problems that people have expressed strongly during the epidemic period.
MOHURD requires that all sample cities put forward targeted measures based on the evaluation results and incorporate them into their urban construction work plans.
