The Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism announced on June 27 that the 131 provincially-monitored scenic spots had more than 2 million tourist arrivals and an operating revenue of nearly 80 million CNY during the brief Dragon Boat Festival holiday, down 61.66% and 67.49% respectively compared with the same period of last year. More than 11.52 million tourist trips were made in Hunan and tourism income reached 8.083 billion CNY, registering year-on-year drops of 27.08% and 25.94% respectively. The holiday tourism market is undergoing steady recovery.

The Dragon Boat Festival embodies people's wish to welcome good luck and ward off bad luck and disasters, generating great demand in cultural tourism, folk custom experience and other cultural tourism consumption. A whole variety of cultural tourism activities held around the province attracted numerous visitors. These activities included the 16th China (Miluo) International Dragon Boat Festival in Quzi Cultural Park; New Youth Art Exhibition of West Wing and folk experience events like wearing Hanfu (traditional Chinese costume), making zongzi and embroidering sachets in Ningyuan Confucian Temple; and featured events in the Taohuayuan Scenic Area in Changde.

Due to the epidemic, short-distance trips within the province and peripheral areas became popular. Short trips to suburb areas in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture saw vigorous growth. Its Furong Town, Ethnic Culture Park, Wulongshan Grand Canyon, Mawangxi Scenic Area and Pushi Ancient Town have become major destinations for tourists. The summer travel routes newly developed by Huaihua were favored by visitors all over the province. They are Hongjiang Ancient Commercial Town-Hecheng Yellow Stone Scenic Spot, Chuanyan Mountain-Shanbei Terraced Fields in Xupu, Amazing Trip to Dong Villages in Tongdao and Cultural Landscape Tour in Yuanling.

During the holiday, the top 10 hot destinations were: Langshan Mountain in Shaoyang, Yuelu Mountain in Changsha, Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient Town in Xiangxi, Orange Isle in Changsha, Mount Hengshan in Hengyang, Mausoleum of Emperor Yandi in Zhuzhou, Shaoshan in Xiangtan, Taohuayuan Scenic Area in Changde, Yushan Mountain in Shaoyang and Dawei Mountain in Changsha.

The cultural tourism authorities implemented the arrangements and requirements of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, and strengthened epidemic prevention and control, and tourism management. All scenic attractions opened in difference times based on reservation service. During the holiday, the tourism market across Hunan was in good order and there were no reported travel accidents or serious complaints about service.
