Lv Ben: strive to lead in basic sepsis research

Lv Ben, Director of the Hospital Management Office of Central South University, Vice President of Xiangya Medical College and Vice President of the Third Xiangya Hospital, was awarded the title of 2021 "May 4th Hunan Outstanding Youth of Overseas Chinese community".

"It is a great honor for me to win the title, as a person who has returned from overseas study." Lv Ben said that the honor is not only a recognition, but also a kind of encouragement. He will continue to work hard in the future and do better in his field.

At the end of 2008, Lv Ben was selected into the "State-sponsored Graduate Program of the National Construction High-level University" due to his outstanding academic performance. He went to the Feinstein Institute of Medicine in New York, USA, which is the birthplace of sepsis research in the world. In 2013, he received his second doctoral degree in immunology. After graduation, Lv was promoted to an assistant professor at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research due to his outstanding research achievements. However, as a government-sponsored student, Lv gave up the good working and living conditions in the United States after working there for a short time. He returned to Central South University to work and was selected as a National Outstanding Youth Researcher.

In recent years, Lv ran in the pathogenesis of sepsis has obtained the original research breakthroughs, found that the excessive activation of an immune response is a key link for the leading causes of death in sepsis, toppled the mainstream view of international academia in the past, reveals the immune, blood coagulation, and the internal relations of organ failure, screening the heparin is the immune response of natural inhibitors, Meanwhile, a new method of treating sepsis with low coagulant heparin without bleeding risk has been developed, which provides important ideas for the prevention and treatment of sepsis. A series of papers have been published in international top academic journals such as Nature and Immunity, which has been evaluated as a "major breakthrough in theoretical research" by international peer experts. As a result, Lu Ben won the "China Youth Science and Technology Award" and "Zhong Nanshan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award", and he was invited to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in the United States, Karolinska Institute in Sweden and other well-known universities to give a series of invited reports.

"In the future, we will provide better services for teachers and students of the school, help team members grow and progress, and cultivate a group of national and provincial level scientific and technological innovation talents." Lv Ben hopes to obtain several "0-1" original research results in the next five years, and actively promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, so that the scientific research team can become an international leader in the field of basic research on sepsis.
