A father and his son from a fisherman family protect ecology of Dongting Lake

He Dongshun, born on 1997, was raised in a fisherman family. At a young age, he started to fish with his father, He Daming in East Dongting Lake. In 2003, He Daming had saved a wounded finless porpoise and her son. After his 4 months care, they were healed and returned to the lake. This little thing made Daming to realize the fact that he can contribute to the ecological protection in East Dongting Lake. He organized a  team to protect finless porpoise, and many fishermen had joined it. Eventually, this team became the ecological protection organization of East Dongting Lake in Yueyang.

In 2017, after He Dongshun obtained his bachelor degree in Changsha, he was encouraged to become a full time employer of this organization. In 2020, China had banned any forms of fishing in many important areas of the Yangtze River. But, now He Dongshun and many friends of his father who used to be fishermen are returning to Dongting Lake, and as volunteers they are protecting this lake that used to their source of livelihood.
