The
results of the “2021 Happiest Cities in China” survey were released in
Beijing on December 30. Ten provincial capitals and major cities
including Chengdu, Hangzhou, Changsha, and another 10 cities at the
prefectural level including Wenzhou and Xuzhou have been listed as the
happiest cities in China for 2021. Ten county-level cities including
Taicang, Ruian, and Changsha County and another 10 urban districts
including Nanshan District of Shenzhen and Nanhai District of Foshan
were also selected as the happiest places. The
cities were selected by the Oriental Outlook magazine and think tank
Liaowang Institute, both run by Xinhua News Agency, with technical
support from the China Happy City Laboratory and the Business
Intelligence Laboratory of Baidu Research Institute. This year, it aimed
to survey the sense of happiness of Chinese cities and promote the
vivid practices of the construction of happy cities. After
a five-month-long process that included big data collection,
questionnaires, materials submission, field research, and expert
reviews, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Changsha, Wuhan, Nanjing, Qingdao,
Guiyang, Xining and Harbin were selected as the happiest cities in China
