Hunan sees nearly 3.6 min tourist trips during new year's day holiday

During the New Year's Day holiday, the weather in most parts of Hunan Province was fine and the temperature rose. It was a good time for travel. Statistics from the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism showed that 978 provincially-monitored units received 3.5927 million tourist trips and generated operating income of 515 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.88%.

Affected by the epidemic, this year’s cultural tourism activities have decreased compared with last year. However, various cultural tourism activities with local features were held across the province to greet the New Year. The 2022 New Year's Day Hunan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition and the Fifth Hunan Intangible Cultural Heritage Traditional Handicraft Expo were held in Du Fu Pavilion and Hunan Cultural Center, which was greatly favored by the general public. The Newly-created Large-scale Stage Play Performances of the 7th Hunan Art Festival, the Hunan Provincial Photography Exhibition, and the Hunan Provincial Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition were held in Changsha, Zhuzhou, Yiyang, and Xiangtan. This attracted a large number of art enthusiasts.

New Year’s Eve fireworks were staged at Changsha Tongguan Kiln Ancient Town, Fantawild Oriental Heritage Theme Park, Huayi Brothers (Changsha) Film Town, and Visionland Changde. A Tang-era Night Banquet was held in Lingling Ancient Town, Yongzhou City where visitors could ascend the Zhuangyuan Pavilion to ring the New Year's bell.

In recent years, Hunan has promoted many winter tourism products, and hot springs and skiing have become popular activities. Before the holiday, Changsha’s Xiangjiang Happy City completed snowmaking upgrade and was equipped with brand new ski trails. Rucheng Reshui Fuquan Villa, Mangshan Forest Hot Spring Hotel, and Ningxiang Huitang Zilongwan Hot Spring Resort were the best choices for leisure travel in winter.

Self-drive travelers and individual tourists became the mainstream, and short-distance tourism projects in and around cities were favored by a growing number of tourists. Yuelu Mountain-Orange Isle Scenic Area, Window on the World, Macrolink Tongguan Kiln Ancient Town and other scenic spots in Changsha City received more than 102,000 tourist trips, accounting for 53.7% of the city’s total tourist arrivals.
