The Changsha New Port, as an important opening up platform in Hunan Province, handles more than 60% export containers of the province’s total, and ranks first in China in terms of the proportion of heavy-haul trains and transportation security of the China-Europe freight trains. The Kaifu District government announced on January 23 that, the district had achieved an import and export value of 4.191 billion USD in 2021, increasing by 29.87% year on year, and ranking first among five districts of Changsha.

In 2021, Kaifu District had taken practical efforts in implementing the strategic positioning and missions of the “Three Hubs and Four New Missions” Strategy, and aimed to build a hub of reform and opening up in inland areas. Breakthroughs had been made in open economy. A total of 1,030 China-Europe freight trains, including 637 for export and 393 for import, departed from Changsha in 2021, growing by 94.34% over the previous year. The freight value reached 2.769 billion USD, up 34.35%. The district ranked first in China in terms of the proportion of heavy-haul trains and transportation security of the China-Europe freight trains, and was in the front rank nationwide in terms of customs clearance environment and quality of services.

Changsha has sped up its progress in building a core area of national land port logistics hub. The Changsha New Port (phase three) railway special line, with a total investment of 545 million yuan, will finally achieve rail- water combined transport. The Central South China International Land Port Container and LCL (Less Than Container Load) Center, the largest LCL center in central south China, had a total investment of 316 million yuan for its first phase. The China-Europe freight trains depart from Changsha towards Vietnam’s Hanoi, other ASEAN counties, and Ukraine’s Kiev, making Changsha a cluster of China-Europe and China-ASEAN freight trains in central China.
