“It is such an honor for me to be so close to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, though I still cannot get a ‘Bing Dwen Dwen’ nor meet with Eileen Gu,” said Fu Yu, a 20-year-old volunteer born in Hunan’s Changde. She studies at Beijing City University. During this Spring Festival, she stayed in Beijing as an Olympic volunteer. “Though working outside the ‘closed-loop’, I take great pride in my work,” she said.

Fu serves at the Beijing Media Center, working for security and epidemic prevention. She assists police officers in checking the identification documents in ensuring every people passing in and out is healthy and secure. “I get up at 5:00 every morning and should be very patient and meticulous every minute. However, I’m so proud of my work and will stick to it energetically.”

She mentioned that there are many Hunanese in Beijing, which gives her a sense of belonging. She learned a lot from the good quality that the Hunan people have. “I am proud of being a Hunanese, and this identity motivates me in my volunteer job,” Fu said.

Zeng Lelin, a post-2000s born in Hunan’s Shaoyang, is a China University of Geosciences student in Beijing. She works at the “Charming China” photo exhibition on the first floor of the Beijing Media Center. She checks the exhibited photos every day to ensure the images are qualified, and visitors can observe the most beautiful scenes of China. As a CPC member, she takes her volunteer job as a great honor. “Holding the Winter Olympics is significant for my country. I am proud of making contributions to it as a young CPC member,” she said.

Zeng said that the Hunanese have participated in and shouldered responsibilities in every critical moment in Chinese history. She has met many Hunanese in Beijing and felt a sense of “big family.” “I am contributing Hunan youth strength to our country. This volunteer work experience will be memorable in my whole life,” she said.
