Hunan province over-fulfills 2021-2022 water conservancy construction task

As of the end of March, an investment of 15.44 billion yuan has been completed on the Hunan provincial water conservancy construction in autumn, winter, and spring seasons between 2021 and 2022, accounting for 111.8% of the planned. The projects included in the list have all been completed as planned. This was learned from the Hunan Provincial Department of Water Resources on April 7, 2022.

The construction of water conservancy projects in autumn, winter, and spring seasons started since last September. The Hunan Provincial Department of Water Resources formulated and issued the “Implementation Plan for Water Conservancy Construction in Autumn, Winter, and Spring in Hunan Province from 2021 to 2022”. It specified that the province planned to invest 13.81 billion yuan to accelerate the promotion of major water conservancy projects, focus on improving the capacity of flood control and disaster reduction, consolidate the foundation of water conservancy for rural revitalization, and promote the continuous improvement of river and lake ecology.

As of the end of March, the following projects have been completed:

- Rebuilt 2,524 flood-damaged projects;

- Newly built and reinforced 568 kilometers of embankments;

- Dredged 1,112.1 kilometers of river channels;

- Renovated 67 irrigation areas and 1,254.1 kilometers of canals;

- Built and reinforced 607 reservoirs; and,

- Newly established 1,183 projects to maintain rural drinking water safety.

Hunan Province has newly increased water supply capacity by 185.588 million cubic meters; newly added, restored, and improved farmland irrigation area of 5.068 million mu (337,867 ha.); newly added and improved waterlogging area of 2.945 million mu (196,333 ha.); increased an annual water saving capacity of 219.008 million cubic meters; treated soil erosion area of 470.2 square kilometers; and, benefited 2.448 million more people from water supply.
