The secretariat of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) Organization Committee announced that the 2022 online CAETE, also a shopping carnival, will be launched in June. Dozens of economic and trade events, such as the China-Africa economic and trade supply and demand matchmaking meeting, will be held to boost China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.

This year, the online CAETE will be based on Kilimall, an e-commercial trading platform in Africa. So far, more than 3,000 enterprise or individual participators have started preparations for more than 700,000 goods worth over 100 million yuan. The selected goods are being transferred in batches from Kilimall’s transit warehouse to the overseas warehouses in Kenya. In addition, some commodities to be sold to China are being set.

Mobile internet has been flourishing in Africa in recent years, with a surge in internet users, said Guan Jian, vice general manager of Kilimall. It is estimated that the e-commerce market shares in Africa will reach 75 billion US dollars in 2025. This year, more than 50 international brands and enterprises will participate in the online CAETE. For instance, the infinix, tecno, and itel of the Transsion Holdings will be promoted online. Several OPPO smartphone products will be sold exclusively on the Kilimall platform during the expo. In addition, Chinese home appliance brands such as Changhong and Hisense and some Hunan-made products, including medical devices, suitcases and bags, wigs, and costumes, have registered on the platform.

The CAETE is jointly hosted biennially by China’s Ministry of Commerce and the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, with its permanent venue located in Hunan. The online expo and a shopping carnival will be held this year when the CAETE is not in session. It is aimed at maintaining public attention to the CAETE.
