The Information Office of the Hunan Provincial People's Government held a press conference in Changsha on August 29. At the conference, Zhang Zaifeng, chief engineer of the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, announced that the 2022 Asia-Pacific Forum on Green and Low-Carbon Development will be held in Changsha from September 8 to 9. The theme of the forum is "Low-Carbon Development Empowers a Greener Future".

In September 2015, Hunan signed a memorandum of understanding with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Since then, the Asia-Pacific Forum on Green and Low-Carbon Development has been held for five sessions. It has gained wide attention in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2021, the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment and ADB signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting Green and Low-carbon Development. They agreed to hold the forum every year, aiming to share and promote advanced green and low-carbon technologies and global best practices and build the forum into a high-end international platform with the theme of addressing climate change.

A series of activities will be held around the theme of the forum. The sub-forums will discuss such topics as energy transformation, digitalization, low-carbon technologies, urban low-carbon actions, and carbon markets. They will also focus on hot issues including rural revitalization and low-carbon zones, and discuss road maps and comprehensive solutions to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. With the support of governments, ADB, think tanks, enterprises and well-known universities, the forum will be dedicated to promoting in-depth exchanges and cooperation among governments, enterprises and research institutions. An exhibition on low-carbon technologies will be held in a public area of the forum venue.

The Hunan Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Expert Advisory Committee will organize an expert consultation meeting during this year's forum. Representatives of government departments and enterprises, as well as industry experts, will be invited to offer suggestions for implementing the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategy in Hunan Province.

Zhang Zaifeng noted that, the forum will feature an opening ceremony, an achievements release and agreement signing ceremony, two main forums, one expert consultation meeting, six sub-forums, and a closing ceremony. According to the requirements of epidemic prevention and control, the forum will be held in an "online + offline" format. It will be broadcast online through livestreaming.
